The Power of the ZONE.

It's totally stupid to be stressed about opportunity!

Success very often leads to more stress for most people, and pretty soon they're achieving things, and instead of experiencing the joy they wanted, they've got more of a to-do list, more things they got to manage, more things they got to take on.

It certainly has been the case for me in my business.

I mean, I give you an example. When you have more than one business, more people in teams, more clients, more projects all these different opportunities require more management, more time, more energy, more demands and more expectations from other people: all the people that you're working with, all the people that want to be communicated with, all the people you're responsible to.

There's more and more demands, which created more and more stress.

So we have to break out of that because I thought this is stupid. It's totally stupid to be stressed about opportunity; it's totally stupid to be stressed about success, but we get seduced because we kind of just say, "Well, that's part of the way things work." I mean, we've got competing desires; we want to do everything at the same time.

I mean, isn't that what we're made for all of these opportunities?

You know what? It's possible; it's more than possible to take control of this process, to really create that freedom, but I'll tell you what it takes: you've got to realize that you have choices, and you say, "Well, I know I have choices." Yeah, you may know that intellectually, but, I mean, emotionally, most of our stress comes because we're in a position where we feel like we have no choice.

We feel like we have so many musts: I have to do this and I have to do that and after this I must, must, must, must...

I want to tell you something: no matter how successful you are, when you get too many musts, you're gonna be stressed. I don't mean I should; I don't mean I get you and I don't mean opportunities.

I mean when you feel like you have to do everything you yourself and if not you, then no one else will and there are more things than you can possibly do, you're gonna be stressed.

The solution: The first section is to realize your choice.

I'll give you a little clue: when you think you have one choice, you got no choice.

When you think you have two options, you basically have a dilemma. You're stressed because you know what happens is you think, "I got to do this or that? Either one is painful or?" I want this and I want that. I can't do them both, so now I'm stressed because I'm not getting my opportunity. I and we create a sense of loss about opportunity.

There's always at least three options, always!

When people learn decision making, they understand, don't ever attempt even to start making a decision until you realize there's at least three options.

Few examples:

  1. The Micro-Manager: You check every line, becoming the bottleneck of your own company and ensuring you never have the freedom to grow because you only get 24 hours and you have reached your limit.

  2. Quitter: You stop checking entirely, cross your fingers, and wait for a client to complain about an error.

  3. The Leader: You create a checklist for your team. You empower your team to be the final "Quality Auditor" for technicals, while you only step in for a 5-minute "high-level" review of the final work.

  1. You can employ people: Carry the weight of training, providing the equipment, paying NIC tax and holiday pay wiles motivating the team.

  2. You can work with contractors: Sign a limited agreement based on time or project completion.

  3. You can outsource: Use professionals and pay per project.

  1. DIY: You can do it yourself.

  2. DIW: You can do it with someone's assistance or guidance.

  3. DIF: Someone else can do it for you.

Where there are three options. You're at choice.
