Can I get real with you for a second as this my save your relationships!
When I got married, I made a decision I had never made before in my career I took three full days completely off. No laptop. No phone calls. No checking emails “just in case.”
Now, for most people, that’s nothing special. But for me, it was huge. Because since leaving the hospitality industry in 2014 and diving full-time into property, I hadn’t taken a single real holiday. Not one in 11 Years!
I’ve been running at full tilt panic attack, two jobs, property management on the side, leading men’s groups, and running two companies, SpacePhot and SpaceSurvey. Every so-called “holiday” I’ve taken was really just me working from a laptop during the day and maybe enjoying a dinner at night.
Why? Because I believed that’s what it takes to survive especially in a place like London, where the cost of living is sky-high and there’s no safety net. I came here from Latvia in 2008 with no language, no skills, from a single-parent family in a council block. There was no head start, no wealthy uncle, no secret advantage. Just me, my work ethic, and the unshakable belief that if I wanted a better life, I had to fight for it.
But here’s the truth…That fight, that relentless grind, it cost me. I lost touch with friends. I missed moments with family and it contributed to breakdown in my previous relationships.
I realised I couldn’t let it cost me my current relationships and my marriage.
So I took three days off work during my wedding, these days were more than “time away from work.” They were a declaration: This is why I’m building my business. For my family. For my life.
And here’s where this hits home for architects and anyone else especially service based businesses.
If you try to do everything yourself… if you cling to every task out of fear that no one else can do it as good as you… you’re building a prison with your own hands. The more “successful” you become, the less freedom you'll have because your success is build on you giving away your time!
The solution? You’ve got to build your Power Team. People you trust. People who’ve got your back when you step away. People who let you grow the business and live the life.
Because in architecture just like in any business the masterpiece isn’t the project you complete. The masterpiece is the life you create!
So ask yourself: are you building alone, or are you building with a team that will set you free?
Think your wedding was dramatic? Wait until you see mine and what James Bond pulled off… 🎥🍸
Story: James Bond wasn’t invited to the wedding…
On the shores of Lake Como, under the Italian sun and the gaze of high society, 007 infiltrated in the Villa at the most exclusive wedding of the year. No one suspected a thing until the vows were spoken and the real plan was set in motion. 💣
In one swift move, he kidnapped the bride (who might not be as innocent as she looks), leaped off the villa terrace, and vanished into the mist aboard a speedboat.
Shaken, not stirred but Married. 🕶️ ❤️
